Do You Believe in KARMA ? .... I Certainly Do.....

At a real early age, I learned the importance of being a team player and to always share in the glory of winning and to face the humility of losing together with dignity.  Back in my playing days I always lived by 2 mantras;

1) I always maintained my sportsmanship winning or loosing.

2) I always congratulated my teammates & my opponent when deserving.

It seems that my Pop Warner coaches recognized something special in me when I was a young player. They wanted me to play the position of Center.  I really liked being Center because it was like being the quarterback of the offensive line.  I was good playing this position because I could move any  opponent out of the way. I could move my feet really fast and push them basically anywhere I wanted.

In 1971, I had an incredible Football experience that set the stage for the rest of my Football playing days.  I played on the Memorial Ashford Vikings .. it was so long ago, I don't remember everything, but my coaches name was Paul Glover.

We had an awesome starting QB & Linebacker named Bennie West.  Bennie was a really good athlete and better than me in many ways. I played Center on Offense and Linebacker next to Bennie on Defense.  Get this., our team  went  12 - 0.         We Were Undefeated, Untied, and UnScored on.  Yes.. I said Unscored on.

We dominated so well together, but of course their were others, I just cant remember.   Talk about having a  VIZION QUEST  moment..... from that point, on I had serious Dreams of Football Greatness.

Soon after that, as a Junior playing on the Spartan Varsity Team for Stratford High School in Houston, TX. We won the 1978 Texas State Football Championship!

During this time, I was blessed to have an inspirational head coach named Oscar Cripps. He inspired me and others on that team.  He taught us that winning at any level in a team sport required us to do the best job we could and have a good time doing it. He made sure that we treated each other with respect.

In addition, we had to be willing to share winning  honors that came to the team throughout that year regardless of who actually gets the credit.

Mike Webster Autograph ..

As a young boy, I often dreamed about playing professional football one day in the NFL.  I wanted to be like my super NFL hero, “ Iron Mike” Webster, of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just like Iron Mike, I was willing to work real hard to reach my football goals.  For conditioning almost every day, I ran tall hills just like Mike Webster ran stadium stairs at Soldier Field in Pittsburgh, PA . I worked out with weights for 5 days a week for many hours. I was always very healthy and strong as a young football player.

So something very cool happened to me on one Fall day in  1975. I  got to meet my Football Idol, Iron Mike Webster,  in person. He was nice enough to sign an autograph showing himself SNAPPING  the ball to his Quarterback Terry Bradshaw.  I remember being  so impressed that I put that autographed picture up on my bedroom wall in my youth, in college and when I was in the NFL.  I can remember going to bed many nights and looking up on my wall and seeing Mike Webster in action.  The above photo of Mike Webster Snapping the ball to Quarterback  Terry Bradshaw was my GUIDING COMPASS that I felt was steering me toward the NFL and eventually, in 1988 & 1989,  I found myself winning 2 back-to-back Super Bowls.  Thanks for the inspiration, Iron Mike!

So here is my 49ers photo showing me SNAPPING the ball to Joe Montana. It is ironic that this is the stance and angle as MY MIKE WEBSTER photo!

The point of me sharing my football story is that I truly believe that VIZION QUEST does really work. I hope that by me sharing my experience  can be an inspiration to other young boys and girls, jr. high, high school and college athletes, millennial's, boomers, generation  Xers and the next generation.  Try going to sleep at night and envision yourself doing something extraordinary and then see yourself doing it in deep meditation as though you were in that same ZONE. That's what I did!

My Reoccurring Dream

But, here is something really special that kept happening to me over and over throughout the next 10-12 years . I remember so often going to bed dreaming of walking through a white tunnel. At the end of that tunnel was a ray of light.

Then, I would start to run toward that light and could even smell the damp wet stadium grass. Finally, I would emerge from the white tunnel and he could even hear the roar of the crowd. And get this, as I was running though that ray of light, I found myself floating on air. & I could not feel my feet.

As crazy as this might sound, this is exactly what I got to experience on Jan. 22, 1989

I was staring straight down a tunnel of white balloons and at the end of that tunnel was that ray of light. It had even rained the day before that night of the Super Bowl game at Joe Robbie Stadium, Miami Florida. Therefore, I even got a whiff of that damp wet grass!

Talk about having DeJeVu. >> I still get chills up & down his back just thinking about it.

So now let's jump to the year  2019.  At the beginning of the NFL  season,      I received a phone call and an official invitation to be the  San Francisco 49ers Honorary Team Captain on Aug. 10, 2019 for the game  San Francisco 49ers vs Dallas  Cowboys Game at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

I was hosted by 49ers Alumni Director Guy McIntyre and his staff for the game on Field Introduction. The team honored me by showing a  Chuck Thomas NFL Career Highlight video that was then played on the Levis  Stadium Jumbotron .  I was then escorted onto the 50 yard line for the Game Coin Toss Ceremony with the two other Team Captains from the other team and also the  Game Umpires.

After the Coin Toss, Dr. John York, Owner of the SF 49ers, hosted Suzi and I in the Owner’s Suite for the entire game.  At halftime, John  called all of his executive guests to join him for the presentation of the 49ers Game Ball to me. The customized with my name on it, Chuck Thomas, Honorary Team Captain, 49ers vs. Cowboys, August 10, 2019.   How cool is that ?  I am so blessed to have such a strong relationship and mutual respect with the Owners and 49ers staff. I will never forget this day of honoring me.

Thank you to R.C. Owens, 49ers Ambassador of Alumni Relations, a dear friend and colleague who started the 49ers Honorary Team Captain Alumni Program.

I Was Hero of that Day, For Sure.

So here is the story that was told in  S.F. GAME DAY 01 Magazine article written about Chuck’s climb to the top of NFL history plateau by playing for Coach Bill Walsh, OL line coach Bob McKittrick and S.F. 49er team owner Ed DeBartolo.
